Job Description
Position Summary
The Development Associate is responsible for administrative aspects of development and communications activities. Primary focus of this position is management of the donor database. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in, and participating in, fundraising and communications activities including donor relations, marketing and communications, direct and electronic appeals, special events. This position will also represent Laurel House in the community, as requested to, and/or as agreed upon, by the Executive Director and/or Senior Director.
Donor Database/Donations Responsibilities:
• Manage and update donor database(s) on an ongoing basis
• Process donations and prepare customized acknowledgement letters and other correspondence within 48 business hours of receipt
• Responsible for processing the weekly deposit (or more frequently), including entering donations into the donor database, exporting a report of the donations, and ensuring that thank you letters, tailored to the donor, are sent out within 48 business hours
• Update online donation forms and templated acknowledgement in the donor database at least quarterly
• Review online donations, at least weekly, and code them appropriately
• Ensure that any tribute donation acknowledgements are sent out (as indicated per the donation) in a timely fashion
• Create monthly fundraising reports and dashboards
• Reconcile donations with the Finance Department monthly, or as requested
Fundraising/Communications Responsibilities:
• Assist with implementing and monitoring the annual development calendar
• Ensure that newsletters get printed, stuffed, sealed, and mailed on schedule
• Ensure that electronic newsletters and communications go out as scheduled
• Coordinate production and mailing of appeal letters
• Coordinate production of Annual Report and coordinate distribution
• Assist with ensuring that website is kept up to date (events, wish list etc.)
• Serve as back up to the Social Media Strategist
• Other duties, as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience
2. Experience with donor data base management required, e-Tapestry experience preferred or ability to quickly learn this data base
3. Ability to implement multi-faceted projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks accordingly
4. Strong computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Database management experience (etapestry preferred), Constant Contact
5. Excellent interpersonal skills
6. Organized; detail oriented; accurate
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills
8. Ability to work with diverse populations
9. Ability to respond effectively to feedback and supervision, while also being able to work with minimal supervision when necessary, self-starter
10. Interest in the mission of Laurel House
11. Sense of natural curiosity
12. Valid PA Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
