Water and Wastewater Industry Summer Intern
This program introduces interns to the career opportunities that exist in the water and wastewater industry. Interns will work side by side with team members at local Authorities to learn the daily operations of the industry.
INTERN TASKS (ability to assist and learn the following tasks and duties of the normal operations):
- Collection and testing of water/wastewater samples
- Cleaning and maintenance of tanks, equipment, and facilities
- Construction, installation and repairs of manholes, pipes, motors, meters, etc.
- Perform meter readings
- Checking pump stations
- Fire hydrant flushing and repair work
- Review of AutoCAD drawings
- Use of GIS mapping system
- Perform various administrative duties, including billing, customer service, finance, and human resources
QUALIFICATONS AND NECESSARY SKILLS

Must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the program

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time, up to three hours at a time
- Ability to learn basic mechanical functions including opening and closing valves, use of minor tools (hammers, saws, etc.)
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to various conditions such as heat, rain, dust, noise, chemicals, unpleasant odors
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Lifting objects < 20 pounds
- Coursework in related field desirable
