Explore the science and impacts of a changing climate on our landscape, including plant and insect phenological shifts, regional species movement, extended growing seasons, increased carbon levels, heat waves and changes in moisture patterns. We’ll discuss several adaptive and mitigation strategies that can help our communities and landscapes prepare for change.
Since 1991, Vinnie Cotrone has worked for Penn State University as a Regional Urban Forester and educator covering 18 counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has worked with many municipalities and organizations to develop community forestry programs, additionally providing support to green industry partners, providing technical assistance and educational programming. More recently he has worked with municipalities and engineers on green infrastructure projects to manage urban stormwater. As a Penn State Extension Urban Forester, he has developed educational programs and presented throughout Pennsylvania on various topics ranging from tree species selection, planting and proper tree pruning practices to establishing shade tree commission, inventorying trees, developing shade tree ordinances and managing stormwater.
Designed for the home and hobby gardeners as well as horticultural professionals, the Ambler Arboretum Horticulture Lecture Series, presented by regional experts, will inspire participants while challenging their way of thinking about horticulture.
